Shady Rest Golf Club, founded in 1920, was the first African American Golf and Country Club in the US. It was home to John Matthew Shippen Jr., the first American-born African American Golf Professional, and hosted jazz and blues legends like Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington. The 9-hole course spans 2,247 yards with a par 33, featuring a course rating of 33.3 and a slope rating of 106 on blue grass. Amenities include a Pro Shop, Clubhouse, and Pavilion. Adjacent is an 18-hole miniature golf course with a scenic waterfall, streams, and ponds.
